Testing it Out- Homemade Baby Food!

Well, I have been excited about this for weeks! Ralph's had some apples on sale this past week, 3 lbs for $0.99! So we got a bag for me to try and make homemade applesauce for our lil man! Here are the pics. I just put them in the freezer and can't wait to see how they come out. After they freeze, I am going to put them in a ziplock bag, label & date them and throw them in the deep freeze. He isn't quite ready for them yet, but it's just around the corner! So, if you have any helpful hints or tips about making homemade baby food...PLEASE fill me in. I'm stoked at all the possibilities.

The top two trays are apples, the green ~ avacados of course & with them ~ mango puree!

Homemade Breadcrumbs

I don't know about you, but I love to make chicken parmigiana and eggplant parmigiana at home! I used to buy the breadcrumbs in the tube from the grocery store shelf.

One day I got to thinking...we waste the heels of the bread b/c I am the only one that does not mind eating it. So, I got on the internet...google'd homemade bread crumbs. After browsing, I figured out...I just save my bread ends, toast them in the toaster oven to dry them out and throw them in the food processor. I store them in a sealed container in the freezer. Then, when I need them, I just throw in some spices and Parmesan cheese and get to cooking!

Another benefit...we eat whole wheat bread so the crumbs are whole wheat also...so it's good for you! And, since almost everyone consumes bread, you are not spending more out of pocket for the crumbs and getting the most from your loaf! So think twice about tossing out those heels! Enjoy!
